A compact town in central Jutland set among several lakes along the Gudenå river, Ry has a café and restaurant scene in its compact centre and easy access to scenic viewpoints in the surrounding landscape. The town grew up around its railway station in the 19th century — the older settlement nearby is now known as Gammel Rye — and sits within Skanderborg municipality, close to a UNESCO World Heritage site in the wider region.
