A compact town in western Lithuania's Tauragė County, Vilkyškiai preserves its historic urban layout — the original street network and square plan survive intact, giving it protected status as an urban monument. Two churches anchor the centre: a Catholic church and a Lutheran church founded in 1549. The dairy company Vilkyškių pieninė, whose history dates to 1934, is a significant local presence and a publicly traded enterprise.
