Founded in the 9th century as a fortified settlement, Prades is a small Catalan-French town in the Pyrénées-Orientales with a café and restaurant scene that holds a surprising number of options for its size, set in wine-growing country along the Têt river and close to the Pyrenees. The historic centre retains decorated facades, sculpted fountains, and old wash-houses from earlier centuries of prosperity. The town is also the birthplace of former French Prime Minister Jean Castex.
