A compact village in the Ariège department of southwestern France, Massat sits on the Arac river within the Parc naturel régional des Pyrénées ariégeoises, with the wider Pyrenees close by. The commune holds two protected historic monuments: the church of the Nativité-de-la-Vierge and the Grotte du Ker, a Natura 2000 cave site. Massat also lies on the historic Route of the Pyrenees.
