Saint-Girons
Ariège · France
This compact town on the Salat river in southwestern France's Ariège department, Saint-Girons sits within the Pyrenées ariégeoises regional nature park and serves as the informal capital of the Couserans, a historically Gascon area shaped by the river valleys around it. The compact centre has cafés and restaurants, and the surrounding landscape — including a Natura 2000 site and the protected Sourroque cliffs — puts mountain and river scenery close at hand.
