Gokyo
Nepal
One of the highest settlements in Nepal, Gokyo sits on the eastern shore of Dudh Pokhari — the third of the Gokyo Lakes — high in the Solukhumbu Himalayas, at the foot of Gokyo Ri. Almost all its buildings are guesthouses serving trekkers, and the village empties each winter as residents move to lower elevations. The surrounding lakes and ridgelines offer some of the most elevated viewpoints in the region.
