Venosa

Potenza · Italy

Birthplace of the Latin poet Horace, Venosa is a little town in Basilicata's Vulture area with an unusual concentration of historic churches for its size and vineyards in the surrounding countryside. Known in Italian as the "città oraziana" — Horace's city — it developed significantly under the Del Balzo and Gesualdo families before a long decline. It is listed among I Borghi più belli d'Italia, the national register of Italy's most beautiful villages.
