Above the jagged rock formations of the Dolomiti Lucane, Castelmezzano is a particularly photogenic village in Basilicata's Potenza province, recognised in I Borghi più belli d'Italia and featured on The Telegraph's list of Italy's most beautiful villages. The surrounding territory, shared with neighbouring communes including Pietrapertosa, forms the Dolomiti Lucane park. For its size, the village has a real spread of cafés, restaurants, and historic churches, along with scenic viewpoints across the dramatic landscape.
