Tende
Alpes-Maritimes · France
Mountain village in the Alpes-Maritimes with an unusual number of churches for its size, Tende sits alongside a river in high alpine terrain near the French-Italian border. Part of Italy until September 1947, when it was transferred to France under the Treaty of Paris following a local referendum, the village carries a layered Franco-Italian identity — its name still rendered as Tenda in Italian, Occitan, and several local languages.
