A small mountain town in the Alpes-Maritimes of southeastern France, Sospel sits beside a river with a café-filled centre and easy access to the surrounding peaks. Close to the Italian border and not far from Monte Carlo, it served as a schismatic episcopal seat from 1381 to 1418, and once had a tramway connection to Menton that ran until 1932.
