Saorge
Alpes-Maritimes · France
Particularly photogenic and a member of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France association, Saorge is a compact hilltop village in the Alpes-Maritimes with an unusual number of churches for its size and scenic views over the surrounding terrain. The village changed hands repeatedly between France and Sardinia-Piedmont across the late 18th century — including two named battles in 1793 and 1794 — before being ceded to France in 1860. Highway E74 passes through on its route north toward the Col de Tende and the Italian border.
