Telica, a small town just north of León in Nicaragua, sits within the Maribios mountain range and is home to one of the country's most active volcanoes. Founded on 11 May 1871, the municipality takes its name from a Nahuatl word meaning "dark or black place." It is also the birthplace of former Major League Baseball player Tony Chévez.
