A Pacific-coast fishing village in Nicaragua's León department, Las Peñitas draws surfers and backpackers to its beach bars and surf schools, with the Juan Venado Island Natural Reserve next door offering boat trips, wildlife, and seasonal sea turtle hatching. Volcano boarding at nearby Cerro Negro adds another draw. The village sits beside Poneloya and within reach of León, with mountains visible from the shore.
