A pocket-sized town at the northern foot of the Rila mountains in southwestern Bulgaria, Sapareva Banya is known for its hot mineral water, which reaches 103 °C, and for the geyser that erupted in the town centre in 1957. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the town has a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size.
