Saarijärvi
Finland
A little town in Central Finland's lake district, Saarijärvi sits among 241 lakes — including Pyhäjärvi, Summanen, and Lake Saarijärvi itself — with forests and waterways that draw visitors for hiking, fishing, and cross-country skiing. The town is also the setting for Johan Ludvig Runeberg's poem about the peasant Saarijärven Paavo, a figure of Finnish cultural memory. Pyhä-Häkki National Park lies within the municipality, and the centre has a modest café and restaurant scene.
