Rimetea

Romania

A tiny Transylvanian village in Alba County, Romania, Rimetea sits below the Piatra Secuiului mountain and earned a Europa Nostra award in 1999. A former mining settlement with a strong Hungarian cultural identity — around 85% of residents are Hungarian-speaking — it is home to a Szekler ethnographic museum. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the mountain above the village offers scenic viewpoints across the surrounding landscape.
