Campeni
Romania
Small Transylvanian town in Alba County set along the Arieș River in mountain terrain, Câmpeni is associated with three leaders of the 1784 peasant uprising — Horea, Cloșca, and Crișan — and with Avram Iancu, a prominent figure in the 1848 revolution. An 18th-century Josephine map of Transylvania records gold-washing activity in the river's alluvial deposits nearby, along with ore-processing mills in the surrounding valleys. The wider region holds UNESCO World Heritage sites.
