Slovenia
This Upper Carniolan village on the left bank of the Sava River is known for two churches well above what its size would suggest: the parish church of St. Jacob and the hilltop church of St. Benedict and Our Lady of Sorrows at Tabor, one of Slovenia's best-known anti-Turkish fortified enclosures, its walls still standing. The Tabor hill is also a viewpoint taking in the Julian Alps, the Karawanks, and the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. The village has been associated with orchards since the early 19th century and holds monuments to several writers and the painter Ivana Kobilca, whose most celebrated work was completed here.
