Nova Gorica
Slovenia
Nova Gorica and its Italian neighbour Gorizia jointly hold the European Capital of Culture title for 2025 — a designation the BBC called Europe's first borderless Capital of Culture — making this compact Slovenian border town an unusually lively destination this year. Built from scratch after 1947 on modernist principles, it sits at the edge of wine country in the Gorizia Hills and Vipava Valley, with mountain scenery close by and a café scene that is well stocked for its size.
