Nantou City
Taiwan
Nantou City, the county seat of Nantou County in central Taiwan, served from 1957 as the seat of the Taiwan Provincial Government — making it, before provincial streamlining, the only city in Taiwan to function simultaneously as a local, regional, and central administrative hub. Situated between the Bagua Mountains and the Maoluo River, it serves as a transit hub for the surrounding county and a base for reaching the mountainous interior.
