Beidou

Taiwan

Town in Changhua County, Taiwan, with a walkable centre holding a dense food-and-drink scene and a concentration of historic churches. Beidou sits on the north bank of the Donglo River and was once a significant river port and trading hub in central Taiwan during the Qing dynasty era, conducting maritime trade with Fujian and other coastal provinces of mainland China — a role it lost as the river silted up and rail lines bypassed it.
