Founded in 1135 and granted town privileges by 1140, Næstved is one of Denmark's oldest towns, sitting on southern Zealand near the mouth of the Suså river, with a canal and harbour opening onto Karrebæk Fjord. The walkable centre has a good spread of cafés and restaurants, and the town holds a concentration of medieval architecture alongside several museums. Nearby attractions include the amusement park BonBon-Land and Gavnø Castle. Næstved is also a rail hub with connections to Copenhagen and other Zealand towns.
