Founded in the 12th century by Bishop Absalon as a Cistercian Abbey, Sorø is a tiny town on the northeastern shore of Sorø Lake in central Zealand, surrounded by forests and several lakes. The abbey church holds the burial site of Bishop Absalon, and the abbey itself was converted into Sorø Academy in the 16th century. The town has a modest café scene in its centre and several museums, including Sorø Art Museum and the Hauch Collection at Sorø Academy.
