Montieri
Grosseto · Italy
This compact Tuscan hill village in the Colline Metallifere, Montieri sits in mountain terrain and holds a 14th-century church of Santi Michele e Paolo containing a painting attributed to Taddeo Gaddi. The area was historically shaped by large deposits of pyrite, lead, and silver, mined until the Campiano mine near the hamlet of Boccheggiano closed in the 1990s.
