Monpazier

Dordogne · France

Built in 1284 by Edward I of England, Monpazier is one of the best-preserved bastide towns in the Dordogne, its original grid plan still centred on an arcaded square with a large church nearby. The village holds the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France designation and a 2019 Ville et Métiers d'Art label recognising its concentration of working artisans. A pocket-sized but real café and restaurant scene makes it a practical stop, with vineyards in the surrounding countryside.
