Miaoli
Taiwan
This county-seat city in central Taiwan draws its name from a Taokas indigenous settlement once called "Maoli," and retains a strong Hakka identity — around 87% of residents are Hakka, with Sixian Hakka the dominant spoken language. The terrain splits roughly between lowland farmland and forested hills, giving the city a varied landscape. Its walkable centre has a solid spread of cafés and restaurants, and the surrounding mountain terrain offers easy access to the wider Miaoli County countryside.
