This small Sicilian town in the province of Caltanissetta with an unusual concentration of churches for its size, set in wine-growing country with vineyards nearby. Mazzarino traces its origins to the second half of the 13th century, and the local lords were granted the title Count of Mazzarini in 1507. The town holds two castles, and its friary became the centre of a widely debated legal case in the 1950s known as the Mazzarino Friars case.
