This pocket-sized city in Chile's Los Ríos Region where the San Pedro River runs alongside the centre, Los Lagos sits within reach of Lake Riñihue — part of the celebrated Seven Lakes chain — and the Mocho-Choshuenco volcano. Founded in 1891 as Quinchilca, after a 16th-century Spanish fort in the area, it took its current name in 1928. The surrounding landscape of rivers, lakes, and mountain streams supports a range of wildlife and draws visitors into the broader lake district.
