France Ardèche

Largentière

Ardèche · France

Silver mining shaped this pocket-sized Ardèche village for centuries — its name, adopted in the 13th century, refers directly to the silver-bearing ore extracted here from the 10th century through the 15th, under the authority of the Counts of Toulouse and the Bishops of Viviers. Set in a narrow river valley in southern France's wine country, Largentière has a handful of historic churches and a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size.
