Ukraine

A centre of Hutsul culture on the Prut River in western Ukraine, Kolomyia sits in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains and serves as a starting point for hiking and cultural tours into the Eastern Carpathians. The town traces its history to the mid-13th century as a salt-mining centre, and its walkable core holds a concentration of historic churches alongside cafés and restaurants. It lies roughly midway between Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi in the historical region of Pokuttia.
