Kirishima, in Kagoshima Prefecture on Japan's Kyushu island, is a city known for the Kirishima mountain range — listed among Japan's hundred celebrated peaks — and a cluster of hot-spring resorts including Kirishima Onsen, Hinatayama Onsen, and Myoken Onsen. The Kirishima Geopark received national recognition in 2010. The city is also home to Kagoshima Airport and serves as a transport crossroads between Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures, with high-tech manufacturers including Sony and Kyocera operating facilities here.
