Sendai
Satsumasendai City · Japan
Satsumasendai, in Kagoshima Prefecture on Japan's Kyushu island, sits along the coast and incorporates the Koshikijima Islands, a chain with a history as a hub of trade with southern Europe in the early modern period and a source of significant fossil finds. Inland, the city holds the Imuta-ike wetland, designated under the Ramsar Convention in 2005, and the Ichihino hot spring resort, developed under orders from the Satsuma domain. The Sendai railway station connects the city to the Kyushu Shinkansen network.
