This small city in central Lithuania, midway between Vilnius and Kaunas, Kaišiadorys is one of Lithuania's six Roman Catholic diocese centres and home to the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Christ, built in 1932, alongside the Bishop's Palace completed a year later. The town also holds a local museum, an art gallery, and a memorial chapel built in 1998 over the graves of partisan fighters from the post-war resistance.
