Lithuania's longest-established spa town, Birštonas sits on a loop of the Nemunas River south of Kaunas and has drawn visitors to its mineral waters since the mid-19th century. Named springs — Vytautas, Versmė, Danutė, and others — feed three sanatorias, and the town holds an Olympic rowing centre and an equestrian facility. A 1909 Catholic church and the hilltop Vytautas Park add further points of interest, with cafés and restaurants well-represented for a town of this size.
