Denmark's wealthiest municipality by household income, Gentofte is a collection of affluent Copenhagen suburbs — including Hellerup and Charlottenlund — along the Øresund strait on Zealand's east coast, with a café and restaurant scene that holds a surprising number of options for its size. Lars Ulrich, drummer and co-founder of Metallica, was born here. The area is dominated by villa neighbourhoods and sits just south of Lyngby-Taarbæk and immediately north of Copenhagen.
