Franschhoek
South Africa
A walkable wine-country town in the Western Cape, Franschhoek sits in a mountain-framed valley about an hour's drive from Cape Town and makes a credible claim to being South Africa's food and wine capital. One of the oldest towns in the country, it was settled by French Huguenot refugees — its name means "French Corner" in Afrikaans — and its main street is lined with restaurants and wine estates drawing visitors from across the region.
