This small holiday village on South Africa's Overberg coast, Betty's Bay sits beneath the Kogelberg Mountains along the scenic R44 ocean drive in the Western Cape. Its African penguin colony at Stony Point — established after a whaling station closed there in the 1930s — is the main draw, alongside the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden. The remains of the whaling station are still visible. A handful of cafés and restaurants serve the village, which draws holiday-makers from Cape Town, a short drive away.
