Drohobych

Ukraine

Birthplace of the writer Bruno Schulz and the poet Ivan Franko, Drohobych is a town in western Ukraine with a walkable centre thick with historic churches and cafés. Founded in the late 11th century, it grew into a major saltworks and trading hub, and by the mid-19th century had become Europe's largest oil extraction centre. The Drohobych saltworks are considered the oldest in Europe and remain in operation today.
