Darayya
Syria
Damascus suburb whose Aramaic name — meaning "House of Vision," a reference to the appearance of Jesus Christ to the Apostle Paul — points to its ancient roots, Darayya is the largest town of the western Ghouta region and carries a history tied closely to Damascus itself. It was already the largest village in the Ghouta at the time of the early Islamic conquests, and medieval chronicles record its role in resisting a Crusader siege under Mu'in ad-Din Unur.
