France Doubs

Cléron

Doubs · France

Sitting on the left bank of the Loue river in the Jura massif's first plateau, this little village in the Doubs is dominated by a 13th- and 14th-century castle and a 14th-century church, with dramatic rocky amphitheatres — including the Valbois ravine, a national nature reserve, and the Norvaux reculée — framing the valley on either side. Cléron is also the origin of édel de Cléron, a cow's-milk cheese inspired by mont d'Or, and hosts a compact railway museum and a cheese-traditions museum.
