Brisighella
Ravenna · Italy
Three rocky spurs rise above this little Emilia-Romagna town, each topped by a landmark: the 14th-century Rocca Manfrediana fortress, an 18th-century sanctuary, and a clock tower rebuilt in the 19th century on the ruins of a 12th-century defensive structure. Brisighella also produced Italy's first olive oil to receive Protected Designation of Origin status, in 1996, from the local "Nostrana di Brisighella" variety. Part of the surrounding territory falls within a UNESCO-listed karst and cave system in the northern Apennines, and the town is listed among Italy's most beautiful villages.
