Bere Island

Ireland

This tiny island in Bantry Bay off County Cork's Beara Peninsula offers a quiet base with cafés and restaurants in its compact centre, within easy reach of water and the surrounding mountains. According to legend, it was named by a 2nd-century king of Munster in honour of his wife, Beara, daughter of the King of Castile.
