Avola
Siracusa · Italy
Walkable seafront town on Sicily's Ionian coast, Avola sits within the Gulf of Noto and is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region. Its hexagonal street plan — laid out after the original settlement was destroyed in the 1693 earthquake — gives the centre an unusual geometric order, and the town has a real café and restaurant scene along streets that open toward the water.
