Ragusa
Ragusa · Italy
A Sicilian city rebuilt in baroque style after a devastating 1693 earthquake, Ragusa sits on a limestone hill between two deep valleys and divides into two distinct quarters: the upper plateau town and Ragusa Ibla, reconstructed on the medieval street plan of the original settlement. Its 18th-century churches and palaces form part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared with seven other Val di Noto cities, and the heritage-dense centre, scenic valley views, and a solid food-and-drink scene make it a well-documented stop for independent travellers in southern Sicily.
