Assoro
Enna · Italy
A tiny Sicilian hill town in the Province of Enna, Assoro sits on an ancient site — known in Greek as Assoros and in Latin as Assorus — with scenic views across mountain country. The 12th-century Basilica di San Leone is the town's main historic landmark, and the heights above the town featured in Canadian author Farley Mowat's memoir of his Second World War service, And No Birds Sang. Several UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
