Amares
Portugal
Wine-country town in Portugal's Braga District, Amares sits along the Cávado river with an unusually high concentration of historic churches for its size and a lively café and restaurant scene. The municipality's territory was historically known as Entre Homem e Cávado, and received its royal charter from King Manuel I in 1514. Several UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region, and the mountains are close by.
