Gualtar
Portugal
This tiny town on the right bank of the Rio Este, just outside Braga in northern Portugal, sits within a landscape of vineyards and scenic viewpoints, with a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size. The University of Minho campus now occupies the site of the former Monastery of São Miguel de Gualtar, donated to the Countess of Ildnara between 1032 and 1043. Several UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
