This small town on the left bank of the Nemunas River in southwestern Lithuania, Žemoji Panemunė holds a 1877 Church of St. Vincent de Paul, a hilltop mound, and fragments of a Teutonic Knights' castle complex where a manor house was later built — one that the writer Adam Mickiewicz visited regularly. The town is part of the Panemuniai Regional Park.
