Yangiabad
Uzbekistan
Once a closed Soviet-era town built around a uranium mine, Yangiabad is now known as a summer retreat for residents of Tashkent, with a mineral spring a few kilometres from the centre drawing visitors from across the region. The former mine site is undergoing environmental restoration with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development funding. The town also hosts a base for the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation, and mountains are visible from the surrounding area.
