Vormsi
Estonia
Estonia's fourth-largest island, Vormsi sits in the Baltic Sea as part of the West Estonian archipelago and carries a distinctive Swedish heritage: from the 13th century until 1944, the island was home primarily to coastal Swedes, a community of around 2,600 in 1938, most of whom fled to Sweden during the Second World War. Today it is a small, quiet island with a permanent population of only a few hundred, within easy reach of the water on all sides.
